Warning: The following post may not make a lot of sense unless you have played around with WordPress, the software that is used to produce and display most author websites.

The previous posts were actually made while the site was under development on my local machine. Moving the completed site to the host was a bit of a challenge. I expected that links made on my development machine would have to be updated to work on the server, so I did a search and replace on my exported database in order to fix them. It turned out that WordPress stores links in its database as serialized data. A simple search and replace doesn’t update the length tags, resulting in breakage. Fortunately there are tools that will do the job correctly. Anyway it’s fixed now. Another skill acquired…
